Celebrating MEC Electrical & Technologies, Inc 25th Anniversary
We have officially entered 2025, meaning the 25th anniversary of MEC Electrical & Technologies is upon us! We have so much to be thankful for including all the people who helped get us to where we are today – and we can’t wait to celebrate with every one of them! From a Spirit of Boston Cruise to potential new ideas for our Annual Client Appreciation event, we’re diving into this special year headfirst. To commemorate, let’s take a trip down memory lane to highlight some milestones and accomplishments over the past 25 years.
The Origin of MEC – Massachusetts Electrical Contractors
Our CEO Bill and CFO Deborah started MEC out of the side room in their Chelmsford home back in June of 2000. Both knew they wanted to be their own bosses in their career and decided to act on it when the opportunity arrived. They combined their knowledge in both business and electrical to establish the company as a small startup – MEC Electrical Contractors. Bill was a former partner in an electrical contracting company and a project foreman who also holds a master electrician license in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Debbie obtained a B.A. in Business Administration from Northeastern and has enjoyed leading the philanthropic involvements of the company. As their hard work and dedication took hold, they began to accrue more employees, take on larger jobs and gain more momentum all around. By 2003, MEC had over 20 electrical construction projects in the healthcare industry – not too shabby for only three years!
Evolving into New England’s Premier Electrical Contractor
By 2008 MEC had over 50 reps on the road conducting a plethora of jobs in various industries. The company also moved into an office space on Stedman Street in Chelmsford. More office staff and project managers were added as our clientele and reputation grew. Through networking, tradeshows, and word of mouth recommendations, we began to expand into different industries. Electric charging stations began to rise in popularity, which was added to our portfolio of work. We had also completed copious projects for commercial, institutional, cannabis, pharmaceutical, and research & development businesses by the end of our first ten years in business.
In November of 2011, MEC Electrical even received a Merit Award from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Massachusetts for their work on Lowell General Hospital’s Electrical System and Infrastructure Upgrades. By this time, Lowell General Hospital had also grown to become one of our largest clients – and they still are to this day! A decade of hard work and attention to detail paid off in the form of garnering a strong reputation with owners, facilities managers, IT directors, and various operations managers from our clientele. Our company had also become involved in multiple philanthropic endeavors including the Women Working Wonders Fund, Lowell General Hospital Auxiliary, and countless donations and sponsorships over the years. After some more years of progression, the MEC Team outgrew Stedman Street and moved to our current office location in 2018 at 27 Industrial Avenue in Chelmsford!
The Merge of MEC Electrical Contractors and MEC Technologies
From the side room in a residential home to a fully operating business with over 100 employees, MEC had a lot to celebrate in their 20th year of business in 2020. Over the past two decades we had created and maintained strong relationships with various direct clients, general contractors, and vendors that we cherish to this day. With that being said, many of our clients enjoyed the services provided by both MEC Electrical Contractors and MEC Technologies. Therefore, on December 2nd 2024, the two companies officially merged together forming MEC Electrical & Technologies, Inc. Our management team put a lot of thought, effort, and hard work into combining the two entities. This merger was a long time coming and made business procedures simpler both internally and externally. With all services, employees, and business functions going on under one company name, MEC Electrical & Technologies Inc became one $25M company at the end of 2024.
25 Years of Electrical and Telecommunications Expertise and Counting
We have a whole lot in store for our 25th Anniversary! After MEC Electrical Contractors and MEC Technologies Inc joined forces at the end of 2024, we are stronger and more united as a business, tackling electrical and tele-data projects all over Massachusetts and New Hampshire as one entity. This also gives us one big company to celebrate! Our Annual Client Appreciation Event may look a little different this year with a new venue in addition to a very exciting internal company event planned for this July. We will be taking our whole company on an evening dinner cruise around Boston Harbor as we celebrate the night away together.
As part of our 25th Anniversary plan, we want to continue to expand our territory further into southern New Hampshire with projects at the University of New Hampshire, Portsmouth Regional Hospital, and a new condo build just outside of Portsmouth. Along with direct client work, we have also been developing relationships with New Hampshire based general contractors such as Charters Brothers Construction who we have enjoyed working with on multiple ongoing projects. In addition to Massachusetts and New Hampshire, we hold an electrical license in Maine and plan on expanding our project portfolio further north into southern Maine in the coming years.
