MEC has been working on a number of installations within the UMass Lowell campus including at the Saab Emerging Technologies and Innovation Center. This project required the installation of a Jiplec Jetfirst 200 used in Nanofabrication and Rapid Thermal Processing this machine can process 12′ wafers from ambient to 1,000 degrees Celsius. Working in an extremely sterile Lab environment with protective gear on from head to toe can present a particularly challenging work environment, however, MEC technicians are well versed in these settings.
The Mark and Elisia Saab Emerging Technologies and Innovation Center is a dynamic hub for cutting-edge advances in nanotechnology, nanomedicine, molecular biology, plastics engineering and optics, furthering fields such as life sciences, energy, national security, environmental protection and more.
Outfitted with specialized, high-powered laboratories and equipment, a plastics processing high bay and high-tech cleanrooms, the four-story ETIC will prepare students for jobs in emerging sectors, serve as the site of corporate- and government-sponsored research and foster industry partnerships in the global marketplace.
